Friday Freewrite: Portmanteau
Portmanteau is a fancy name for when you take two words and blend them together, creating a new word that incorporates the meanings of the two original words.
Famous examples:
- Hangry. Combines “hungry” and “angry” to mean “being angry when hungry.”
- Brunch. Combines “breakfast” (morning meal) and “lunch” (noon meal) to mean “a late morning meal (eaten instead of breakfast and lunch).”
Create your own portmanteau and write a freewrite that uses it.
