This year we will be having our Poetry Teatimes on Thursday afternoons.
During our Poetry Teatimes we enjoy a cup of hot tea (or sometimes hot cocoa) and a special treat as we read poetry together. This is a time that I use to read the poetry from everyone’s Sonlight Core and then I let the kids pick a poem to read aloud. Even Jenny picks out a poem or nursery rhyme and I read it for her.
One really extra special treat we had this week and look forward to enjoying more this year is my husband joining us for tea!
Our Poetry Teatime is a great opportunity to relax a bit, to slow down and enjoy one another’s company, and to relish beautiful words!
I love being able to pass along my love for reading, for words and for poetry. Getting to do just that through a weekly Poetry Teatime is a true blessing in our homeschool!

Read this my dears, and you will see
how to make a nice cup of tea
take teapot to kettle, not t’other way round
and when you hear that whistling sound
pour a little in the pot
just make it nice and hot.
Pour that out and put in the tea,
loose or in bags, your choice, you see.
One bag for each two cups will do
with one extra bag to make a fine brew.
Steep 3-5 minutes then pour a cup.
Then sit right down and drink it up!

Hi Julie,
I’m Louise, mum of four poetry teatime lovers in the UK!
I thought I would share some pictures from our poetry tea time last week. We had a great time as usual, but this time we did something a bit different. I was inspired by someone on the Facebook group who spoke about using post it notes to write poetry. So I just added some to our table along with the cupcakes my youngest had made earlier in the day, and some new poetry books we had picked up from the library. I didn’t ‘make’ them write, but all wanted to give it a go!
The small sized paper was so unthreatening and we had lots of different colours, so that made it fun too….We had a great time reading, writing and generally enjoying poetry.
Our work is now displayed on the wall for us to reread and appreciate throughout the week! What a fun and easy way to add a twist to our poetry teas!
