Friday Freewrite: The Town
Pick a real town name from a map you have in your house. Real names will suggest more to you than made up ones. Here are a few examples of towns I know that have interesting names:
- Yellow Springs
- Little Miami
- Cucamonga
- Hidden Hills
Include real store and street names as you write about it. As you write, a form will suggest itself to you. Allow the writing to “shape the content” as writing instructor, Pat Schneider, says (poem, story, newspaper report, brochure).
Set the timer for fifteen minutes and write about your town in any way that pleases you.
