Friendship
Last week, I got to skinny dip in the Pacific ocean halfway around the world on the North Shore of Oahu. My four best friends from high school and I celebrated our half century mark together! 1961—President Obama’s birth year and ours.
People who’ve known you your entire life are especially valuable as you get older. One way to stay young is to value your friendships with those who knew you when you were young. (I remember reading that.) It’s true! I felt like a kid while we had dance parties in the kitchen and laughed until our sides hurt remembering the ridiculous antics of our high school days.
It was also nice to have some time off after an especially hectic summer for Brave Writer. I did spend the entire flight over putting final revisions on the Jot It Down writing program. We’ll put those final edits in next week with a release date of September 20 pending. It’s looking beautiful!
I returned to rain, cloud cover and temps in the 60’s. Fall is here in the northern hemisphere. I hope to be back in the blogging saddle as well. What topics would you like me to cover? Post them in the comments and I’ll see what I can do.
🙂
Aloha!
Things I like to see in your blog:
Quick ideas that can spice up our day (read it in the morning, try it in the afternooon), freewrite prompts, more conference audio (loved the one you posted)
Thanks!
How about more from your experience when kids left homeschool to attend highschool or college – how to support them; how you made that transition personally, etc. I would also be interested in reading more about your own personal development as mom and real person as you homeschooled/parented while maintaining your sanity. Finally, by the time you reached your last child did you homeschool quite differently from with your first? Did you feel any burnout as in lethargy, boredom, really not wanting to follow the old patterns??? Just so you know, I have three kids aged 6, almost 12 and 15 – have been homeschooling ten years and oldest just went off to highschool by mutual decision.
Julie,
I found a comment you posted about piano lessons (which your kids started later rather than earlier) to be so encouraging. I love hearing practical ways you made homeschooling work in your family, and how a “gentler” approach worked over the long haul. Little comments you make really have a big impact on my perspective. Thank you. By the way, I’m forwarding this blog post to my three best buds from high school. We’re did the Polar Bear dip together at 30, so, maybe we’ll do the Skinny Dip at 40!
