Safe Space
Your primary role is to foster a safe space for family to unfurl.
“Safe space.”
What does that mean? I see it as making home a place where each person wants to be.
Home is the place where:
- I can be myself.
- I know that I will have support.
- We root for each other instead of tearing each other down.
A safe space simply means that you have the confidence that you will be free from harm.
Naturally, we all fail at times. In the event of a failure, a safe space at home gives each person the opportunity to recover and restore their closeness.
The tone is set by you. Ask yourself what it would be like to know in your bones that home was the best, most honest, most comforting space. Then do that. As consistently and kindly as possible, for each member.
There’s no place like home.
