A Brave Writer's Life in Brief

Thoughts from my home to yours

Brave Writer turns 10 today!

This week ten years ago, I started my little company (then called The Writing Compass) with an online class. We didn’t have a website, didn’t have a logo, and honestly, I didn’t like the name! But I had students and the class instantly filled. We took eight weeks to work through exercises and writing angst.

Today, we have multiple instructors, more than a dozen types of classes, language arts programs, writing manuals and more. We’ve helped thousands of homeschool families become brave, natural writers. In fact just this morning, I got a lovely email from one of my early clients:

Julie,

Just a quick note to tell you thanks.  A long time ago I took a writing
class you offered for Moms.  What a great experience!  I recently ran
across the writings I did and your comments on those writings.  That
prompted me to write you a note of thanks.  It was great to read what I
wrote years later – and very insightful.

It was a big step for me to take your class and have someone else (you)
read what I wrote.  Thanks for offering that class and thanks for all you
do day by day.

My son took a class of yours at about the same time and he benefited as
well.  Halfway through your class he actually thanked me for “making” him
take your class.  (Confession – your class was one of the very few things
I “made” him do that school year.)

Happy New Year,
Jenny

The truth is: when I started down this path of providing support to homeschooling families interested in writing, I always hoped what I knew to be true for my writing and for my family would turn out to also be true for others. It’s a joy to discover that Brave Writer has been a part of so much writing success.

We have some new products to roll out this month. Look forward to those. I’ve also got some other ideas up my sleeve to help celebrate this big milestone in Brave Writer’s life. Thanks to all of you for your encouragement, validation and participation in our programs.
