A Brave Writer's Life in Brief

Thoughts from my home to yours

Friday Freewrite: Latest Movie

In honor of the release of “Revenge of the Sith,” today’s freewrite has to do with movie-going.

Write about your most recent movie-going experience. You can retell the story (if that turns your crank), you can write a review of the movie, or you can simply write about the whole event without ever discussing the movie at all (the trip the theater, waiting in line, buying popcorn, seeing fans dressed up… ).

For the ambitious:
What messages does the film convey?

What messages does the movie oppose?

How do you feel about it?

Well… I went to see Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room and I was flabbergasted, to say the least.

It would seem that this company, and I still remain unsure as to eggsactly what they did or sold or manufactured, was able to perpetrate gross fraud on a lot of people for a long, long time. If I am to believe what I saw, which is always a caution when must take when leaving a documentary film, Enron and its people were able to orchestrate those rolling blackouts that California experienced all for what seemed to be their own economic advantage. They seemed to have figured out a way to control energy to this state, jack up the prices to their own advantage, and make billions in the process.

For years they built an internationally recognized economic empire, all of which was nothing more than smoke and mirrors. This is the price of the capitalist jungle that is Amerikkka. Dangle the commercial carrot in front of some people… sing to them the anthemic songs of the American Dream… and, well, what do you expect.

    Ah well…
