A Brave Writer's Life in Brief

Thoughts from my home to yours

I’m still here and still writing

Homeschool and business have called. My post about how I do it all is in the works. It occurs to me, though, that part of how I “do it all” (almost, as I like to say) is that I do put aside those things that compete with what matters when I have to. Today, that may wind up being this blog. My kids are up and I’ve got to attend to tutoring appointments, a dog with a bandaged foot who needs to pee and take his meds, and I just returned from taking my husband to the airport. So.

In the spirit of honoring my own priority system (which I’ll share in that post), I need to ask your patience for when I get it finished. Thanks. 🙂

Tuesday Teatime Features the Sunshine Fairy Readers

Sunshine Fairy Readers

Brave Writer Mom, Kay Byrnes, sent me the following delightful photos and description of a book group her daughter hosts in their home: The Sunshine Fairy Readers. They made such a splash in their town, the Sunday paper wrote a feature article about them!Kay writes:

Hi Julie

Anna’s Book club “Sunshine Fairy Readers” was featured in the book section in the Lancaster Sunday News today. SWanted to share it with you….Anna was taking KWB with Rachal as she wrote a chapter of Rose and Her Wild Adventures last spring. Her first meeting was called The All Books Tea and they then renamed themselves “The Sunshine Fairy Readers”.

Anna facilitates the monthly meetings on her own. I think it is one of the main reasons they have continued to meet monthly since July. They have a blast talking about their books, laughing, snacking and crafting things and then cuddling with Copper, Anna’s rabbit. All in two hours!

Thanks for your continued support and great spirit.

Good heavens, how long has it been?

Thank you, patient Brave Writer Moms and Dads.

My life took a turn for the demanding in the last couple of weeks, particularly with a doggie who needed extra TLC and alternating daily visits to the vet. For those who wonder, he’s doing beautifully! Each time we return from the veterinarian, the tech has replaced Rocky’s bandages with a new color and little cut out of hearts or tulips. Our vet tech has made the painful process a bit more cheery and we’re really grateful.

I’ve been busy getting the Spring Class Schedule together (now ready to go!) with a registration date of March 4. We’ve got a new slate of spring One Thing workshops, too, and registration is now open.

In between all of that, I’ve been grading papers, teaching the grammar workshop, discussing Crispin: The Cross of Lead with some of your kids, homeschooling my own brood, and making the house messier every day. It’s a mom’s life. I know you know!

This week, I hope to write an entry about running a business and being a mom. Stay tuned for that (I keep getting emails asking how I do it all…).

In the meantime, thanks for your patience while I get my life straightened out.

Friday Freewrite: Photo day

Thumb through a photo family photo album, pick a picture and then write about the memory it evokes.

Spring class schedule sneak peek

Hi everyone!

Since Rocky’s injury ten days ago, the busy-ness of my already busy life ramped up several notches. He’s got vet appointments every other day, medicines, needs to be helped up and down stairs, couches, outside to pee and more. At the same time, Jacob became a new driver, my two co-op classes resumed and I’m teaching a new online class. Somehow this blog is not getting the attention I usually like to give it!

But what you all really want to know is when that spring schedule will be posted. So instead of working on the blog, I’ve been working on the schedule. I should have the page created and posted no later than this weekend. Since you all have been such patient blog readers, here’s a sneak peek at what will likely be offered and when (dates subject to change):

March:
One Thing: Copywork/Dictation
Kidswrite Basic
Passion for Fiction

April:
One Thing: Nature
Kidswrite Intermediate

May:
One Thing: Shakespeare
SAT/ACT Essay
