Friday Freewrite: A Mouse-y Dilemma
A family of mice are arguing. The young mice believe they’re ready to leave the nest and forage for food by themselves, but their parent mice disagree and won’t give them permission. Write their conversation and what happens next.

Friday Freewrite: Anaphora
Anaphora is a literary device or technique where a number of phrases begin with the same word or words, like:
- “Mad world! Mad kings! Mad composition!” – King John II, William Shakespeare
- “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness.” – A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens
- “Monkey see, monkey do.”
Writers might use anaphora to express a strong feeling, emphasize a point, give rhythm or structure to a list, or make an idea easy to remember.
Now it’s your turn! Create a few phrases using anaphora, and choose some of these words to repeat (or think of your own):
- Welcome to
- Long
- I am
- Truth is
- A candle
- Stinky
