Great job Josh. Looking forward to reading your next paper. Hope you win the contest. I think you may have a little of your Grama's talent

Wow!!! We feel like celebrities. Thank you Julie and Kika for the encouragement. Josh really felt it. Tonight we read in the paper that they are having a fiction writing contest. He is excited and decided to enter it. He started rattling off ideas so fast, I could barely keep up while trying to write. He was doing his own freewrite with me as his scribe. I had to stop him briefly and get the digital recorder! We have 1 month to submit it. Even if he doesn't place, it is still a win in my book!

We use lapbooks for narration and for writing as well. Lapbooks are especially good for creative children who like the fancy folds and illustrating their work (like my daughter).

Great work, Joshua! Thanks for sharing. My kids have enjoyed lapbooks for social studies and science topics too and really enjoyed them. This year I'm planning on my 9yo making a Canadian geography lapbook (not her choice of topic) - I think it is the element of creativity which my kids appreciate. Even if the topic isn't fascinating to them they are allowed some "freedom to create" with a lapbook.
