She has been ill for many years, but worsened recently and will most likely only live for another 6 months or so. I started saving all her e-mails and now most recently have saved her phone messages. I love your idea of saving the 'last letter', as I am a bit of a pack rat and tend to save everything! Helps with the de-cluttering. Any time she's with them, she goes home and makes an entry. Then at age 18, she presents the journals. They're precious! They have all kinds of memories the kids have forgotten, lots of affirmation of their young selves and of course, my mom's handwriting. She also makes little photo books for them periodically so that they have a collection of pictures with their grandma. I hope I'm that good! I love that I can read how much she loved me and believed in me.
