Bless you Julie for this wonderful post. I am grateful that you are so willing to put your thoughts and ideas 'out there'—to share with us. Thank you for your wise and comprehensive advice! This post is so rich. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Your last two vignettes are the solid basis for a marriage/relationship course I think!

May the blessings of the season grace your lovely home.

Julie,

Excellent reminder of the power of presence in our child's life! In our modern busy lives, parents often focus on getting things done and expect the same from their children. What I've found is that every child, no matter how s/he acts, cares deeply about a loving, authentic connection with her parents. Our presence with our children and who we are as people makes all the difference in our child's success and joy in life.

Our emotional connection with our child is our point of greatest influence and impact with our child. This emotional connection either enhances or diminishes our effectiveness as parents. The wonderful part of all this is that with a positive emotional connection, parenting becomes easier and more fun and our children flourish!

Wow, great post, but hey take it easy! LOL It really hit home, hard.
Last night my youngest son was talking, talking and talking some more, and eventually I couldn't take all the input so I just tuned him out. I literally knew he was talking to me, and following me around as he did so, but I just nodded, said, "uh huh" and kept moving. I missed so many opportunities to really connect with him, to give him what he wanted and craved most, ME!
Thank you for reminding us that it's more important to spend time with our children instead of being too busy to really connect with them.
